We are looking to expand our team of excellent Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers with Senior Care Workers and Team Leaders.

The role of a Senior Carer is an important position within working in the health and social care industry. You will lead, develop and co-ordinate a team of Care Workers to provide the highest standards of respect and care, overall, ensuring the dignity of the clients is maintained at all times

As a Senior Care Worker, you’ll do a lot of the same jobs as a Care Worker but with the additional duties of supervising and supporting a team of Care Workers.

Your role might include:

  • assisting with the activities of daily living and personal care,
  • supervising a team of care workers including managing rotas and doing supervisions,
  • completing and maintaining records of daily activities, observations and direct hours of service,
  • talking to individuals to assess what care and support they need,
  • ensuring service is delivered in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures and practices,
  • reporting any issues to the management team.

You could work with lots of different groups of people including adults with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, mental health conditions and the elderly.

What skills do I need?

You need to be a good team leader, communicator and listener. You need to be focused, dedicated and reliable.

There are also some specific skills needed to work in this role. These include:

  • supervisory and team leading skills,
  • the ability to deal with conflict with problem solving skills,
  • a good level of English in order to understand and apply policies and procedures in practice.

What experience and qualifications do I need?

You need to have some experience of working in health and social care to be considered for a job as a Senior Care Worker. Depending on where you work and the level of your role, some Senior Care Workers might need a nursing qualification (for example, if they work in a nursing home or hospice). However, this is not necessary for care homes.

It’s also really important that you have the right values and behaviours to work in Social Care, as you’ll be responsible for managing a team and leading by example.

It might also be helpful to have a social care qualification such as a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Medication training is a must.
